Projects: Charnwood LIFT Health & Social Care Centre
Client: Leicester LIFT Co.
Main Contractor: Laing O'Rourke
Featured on BBC ‘Newsnight’ as an illustration of the Leicester LIFT public private partnership, the project utilized 256 Orbis Laminated Doorsets in Steamed Beech with unwired, clear glass vision panels and primed frames. Laidlaw’s distinctive Stainless Steel Handrail System, using circular top rails and glass, was used extensively in areas such as atrium balconies, stairwells and corridors, while the Nylon Handrail System, with its 4mm thick nylon sleeve provided colour synergy with Normbau Dark Grey door ironmongery. The Nylon System’s colour cannot be chipped, scratched off or worn away and, not being cold to touch, is ideal for areas of intensive use.

Orbis Anti-ligature fittings such as knob sets and clutch operated bathroom turns, with their lightly sprung lockcases and tamper-proof fittings, were used in secure areas. To complete the specification, a bespoke, lead-lined doorset was supplied for the X-ray department.
The Local Improvement Finance Trust was established as a partnership of public sector organisations including the Eastern Leicester Primary Care Trust, Leicester City West Primary Care Trust and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, Partnerships for Health and private company ExcellCare Limited. In all, around £29 million is being invested in the city’s health and social care infrastructure. ‘Partnerships for Health’ Chief Executive Brian Johns commented “This vision for modern, patient-centred, state-of-the-art premises will transform health and social care in the city and is the very essence of what we are trying to do in LIFT”.
