Background
Paul Waring, a professional golfer who has a bright future. Paul shares a lot of the Core Values that we share as a business. He is also a winner, hardworking, respectful, loyal to his sponsors and family and he ultimately wants to succeed. Paul has a personal desire to team up with Laidlaw and help us grow our brand and image. Paul already has an association with Laidlaw in that his life-long friend and golf caddie, Duncan Robertson, is the son of Paul Robertson who works in our Liverpool Branch
Paul turned professional in 2007 and won his European Tour Card at the qualifying school and has since retained his card for the following two seasons. Paul had a very strong amateur career as he captained the Under 18 Home International in 2002 and then was selected in 2004 for the England Men's Elite squad and was part of that team for the next three years. Paul topped off his amateur career with a win at the English Amateur Championship at his home club Bromborough GC.
Since Paul has turned professional he had a strong first year (2008) on the European Tour with good finishes at the Joburg Open (tied 9th) and the 139th Open Championship held at Royal Birkdale (tied 19th) which he played alongside world number 2 Phil Mickelson on the final day.
Mickelson commented on how impressed he was with Paul:
"He fought hard to hang in there and have a good solid round, I think he's going to have a good finish to this year and be a strong force in European golf"
John Jefferies, CEO of Laidlaw commented, “Paul has continued to prove his quality on the European Tour this season, and we are excited to be a part of his future as he continues to improve in search of his maiden Tour victory. He is a great golfer and I am sure he will be a great ambassador for us around the world. We wish him all the best for the remainder of the season and into 2012.”
Paul's comments on representing Laidlaw:
“I am delighted to have Laidlaw as one of my sponsors and look forward to representing them on tour,” commented Waring. “I have continued to improve my game throughout 2009, and feel that I am getting closer to my maiden tour win. Hopefully I will continue to put myself in position to do that, which will bring real value to Laidlaw both on and off the course.”
