Project description

Located on a 70 acre site in Little France, Edinburgh, the new £200 million Edinburgh Royal Infirmary is one of the UK's largest PFI projects in the healthcare sector and the largest new acute teaching hospital currently being built in the UK.

The project involves the construction of a replacement hospital for the existing Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, together with a new medical school. The hospital comprises a total floor area of 110,000 sq m over three main storeys together with basement and plant rooms and has a total length of 350m. Employing almost 5,000 people, the new hospital is expected to treat 428,000 outpatients per year with a further 200,000 via Accident & Emergency and inpatient care.
