The Salto range of access control is based around the Salto SVN (Salto Virtual Network) which uses battery operated, high security access control locksets that are capable of offering many of the features of networked access control without the need for a hard wired network or the costs associated with such a system. The locksets are capable of storing audit trails and working on time profiles for access through doors and automatic functions.
Using a combination of locksets and also wall readers (connected to electric locks, gates, barriers and door automation), the system allows every door to be controlled with a smart card access control device.
The Salto Virtual Network is a computer managed system that takes the functionality of access control beyond the ability to give a user access through a door. Using “online” readers (wall readers connected to an IP network) you are able to reprogram the access rights of a user as they gain access through a door with an online reader. The principle of the Salto Virtual Network is not to carry the access control rights of the user at a lock, but on the user card itself. The data on card principle using smart cards allow the online readers to write, re-write and collect data from the cards as they are used at these readers. By rewriting the data on the card, the access rights of a user are changed and by reading the data, audit information is collected from the card as to where it has been used and this is passed back to the software via the network.

Wall readers are used in a number of applications. Doors with electric locking, barriers and gates, automatic doors and lift control are areas where a wall reader would be beneficial. These readers are can also be configured as the “online” points which are connected back to the PC control of the system. Online readers can be used to update cards and fobs and also to pass information collected from the card back to the software. This information would include the user audit trail and low battery warnings for doors using battery operated locks.
Electronic locksets are the heart of the Salto system and are battery operated locks that allow a card or fob to be used to gain access through a door. The locks are not connected to a PC but they do offer features usually associated with a networked system. The lock is capable of recording the audit trail of who has passed through the door, automatic functions whereby the door will lock/unlock automatically for period in a designated time profile and the ability to recognise whether a user can access the door based on the time and date. These locks can be installed with new door locks or retrofit existing locks to instantly upgrade a door to access control.
Salto offer a full range of electronic cylinders. These battery operated cylinders offer all of the functions of the electronic lockset with the ability to be easily fitted or retrofitted where a cylinder is to be used. The cylinders are available as single, double, or cylinder and turn profile to suit all variants (euro, oval, mortice and Scandinavian) common to the UK market.
An area that has proved particularly difficult to control in the past is an emergency escape door where access control is required but emergency egress is also required. The Salto panic bar solution overcomes this by combining a card operated lockset with a panic device. In this way, all of the features of access control are achieved while also confirming to EN1125 regulation for emergency egress from a building.
Hotels are an area where the aesthetics of the lock are as important as the operation of the system and in recognising this, Salto have introduced the Aelement range of electric locks. These locks are purely designed for the hotel marketplace and offer all of the functionality of the Salto SVN system in partnership with a dedicated hotel management software and cutting edge minimalist design to ensure that the door looks as good as it works. A full range of colours and levers are on offer to compliment the aesthetics of the environment and the ability to integrate the user card into cashless vending, locker access, leisure facility membership and a host of other applications ensures a stylish and technically advanced environment for the user.
Lockers and secure cabinets are another area which is difficult to apply access control to and with the introduction of the XS4 locker lock, Salto have provided the perfect solution to the problem. The locker lock is designed to either install or retrofit easily onto locker doors and it offers all of the features associated with the Salto SVN system. Lockers have independent control within the software package and they can either be automatically assigned whereby a free locker can be given to any valid user or a dedicated locker can be assigned to a user. Perfect for leisure facilities, golf clubs, medicine cabinets and a host of other applications, the locker lock is a versatile addition to the range.
